When people are thinking of relocating from one state to another, many times they wonder what are the safest states to live in. Happily, Idaho ranks as one of the safest places in America to move to if you're facing a move.
Yahoo Homes, Idaho reports that Idaho earned its #7 ranking on the top ten list of safe places to live because of the following factors. These were taken from the FBI's 2013 Uniform Crime Report. This list measures the number of incidences for the following crimes:
Other factors aside from crime also went into the formula. Among them were educational attainments and income and poverty rates.
Vermont topped the list as the safest place in America to live. The number of violent crimes committed per 100K people was 114.9. The state's population is just over 600K, but despite this, it only had 10 murders for the entire year. It has the 12th lowest poverty rate in the union and ties for being of the states with the highest number of adults with a high school diploma.
On other other hand, Idaho had 204.7 violent crimes per 100K people. The population is slightly larger than Vermont's, coming in at 1.6 million people. The state has the 25th highest poverty rate and is tied for 21st place for the number of high school diplomas earned. It had 27 total murders compared to Vermont's 10. However, from a percent standpoint, comparing the populations of the two states with the number of murders, Vermont and Idaho are about the same.
It's not the first time that Idaho has made some "Best of" lists. Boise, Idaho's capital city, made the list for one of the best places to "staycation" in America.
Boise also ranked among the best places to raise a family, and its low crime rate played a big role in it being chosen for that list.
Additionally, Idaho has some of the best schools in the country, another criterion on the list for safest places to live. Schools like Coeur D'Alene Charter Academy, Renaissance High School, and Timberline High School are just some of the Idaho schools that U.S. News and World Report named as best in the country.
