Early evening has come upon the Treasure Valley, and a husband and wife toss some blankets in the backseat of their car and carefully tuck their picnic basket on the floor behind the passenger's seat. They're some of the lucky folks who bought one of the homes for sale in River Heights in Boise, Idaho, and they now reap the benefits. Tonight, they celebrate their new home purchase in style by treating themselves to a night at the Idaho Shakespeare Festival. The Shakespeare Festival box office is located just across the street from the entrance to the subdivision and counts as one of the big draws of living in this neighborhood. It has been named one of the major Shakespeare Festivals by Marcus D. Gregio in the book "Shakespeare Festivals Around the World."
An evening of sublime comedy or great tragedy care of the Bard counts as just one of the many amenities that come with living in the River Heights subdivision in Boise. Like its close neighbor, Harris Ranch, this community gives residents easy access to the Boise River. Driving in one direction, heading away from the subdivision toward town, ardent summer water enthusiasts rent rafts and tubes at Barber Park for a summer float down the river. Or for more leisurely summer water fun, a turn in the other direction takes people living in River Heights out to Lucky Peak Lake.
And if they still have a bit of energy to burn after their day in the water, residents who've bought one of the homes in River Heights subdivision in Boise return home to pick up their bikes and head to one of Boise's favorite restaurants, the Lucky 13. This landmark restaurant sits just a few minutes away from the neighborhood, and locals know it's the best place to grab a few slices of hot pizza and a glass of cold beer. It offers residents a beautiful view and is located in close proximity to the Boise greenbelt, where residents living out by the Shakespeare Festival can take an evening ride and end up at places like Marianne Williams Park or if they're really motivated, Bown Crossing.

The neighborhood itself has beautifully landscaped grounds that have been adorned with trellises, walkways and lighting fixtures reminiscent of days gone by. Additional amenities include an activity center that offers enough space for people to throw events or just meet neighbors for a cup of tea and a chat. There's also a fitness center and an outdoor pool to enjoy as the sun sets over the surrounding foothills. In keeping with the spirit of its Shakespearean neighbor, each street bears a name that honors the great playwright. Theater-loving residents have the good fortune of living on streets with names like The Globe Theater and the Bard.
People living in River Heights in Boise, Idaho also find the nearby schools, the new East Junior High or Riverstone International, to be top quality and academically challenging. But when the families who live in the River Heights subdivision are finally ready to leave the confines of their neighborhood, they'll find that employers like Micron lie just across the skybridge in one direction and in Boise proper in the other. And in the space of about 15 minutes, these residents also find themselves on major throughways like Federal Way or the freeway, where they can catch a movie at the Edwards 22-Plex, shop for home improvement items at Lowe's or Whole Foods in Downtown Boise for some grocery shopping.
On the way back from their outing, it's possible to stop at places like Hastings on Boise Avenue to browse for the latest bestseller. Or they can grab a peanut butter cup Blizzard at the Dairy Queen before heading back to their neighborhood, where a turn on North Shakespeare Way will take them out of the wide world and back home again.
